Wedding Vows
On 2022 August 30th by montyMonty’s Vow to Qita
Qita, you are my family.
You are the most breathtakingly wonderful part of my life and you enrich everything about it. Your love fits me as perfectly as your little spoon fits my big spoon.
I promise to always love, support, cherish, and celebrate you and our family.
I promise to encourage, grow, and share great wonder and joy in our life together.
I promise to do all that you ask of me when you need help, even without asking.
I promise to be present; physically, emotionally, metaphysically, literally, sharing in your meteoric highs, and your paralysing lows. Crit fails, Epic Wins, I’ll be here.
I promise that you’ll always have the affection, adoration, intimacy, and fellowship of this big ol’ Bear. You are my sunshine.
Finally, I promise to love you. Fiercely, kindly, with all the bits that make me.
[John Donne’s poem; Confined Love, read by Monty during the Wedding Breakfast]
Some man unworthy to be possessor
Of old or new love, himself being false or weak,
Thought his pain and shame would be lesser
If on womankind he might his anger wreak,
And thence a law did grow,
One might but one man know;
But are other creatures so?
Are Sun, Moon, or Stars by law forbidden
To smile where they list, or lend away their light?
Are birds divorced, or are they chidden
If they leave their mate, or lie abroad a-night?
Beasts do no jointures lose
Though they new lovers choose,
But we are made worse than those.
Who e’er rigged fair ship to lie in harbours
And not to seek new lands, or not to deal withal?
Or built fair houses, set trees, and arbours,
Only to lock up, or else to let them fall?
Good is not good unless
A thousand it possess,
But dost waste with greediness.
Qita’s Vow to Monty
My dearest Monty, from the moment we met, I knew you were special. You shine with positivity, entrance with wit and dazzle with understanding. From our late night MSN messenger conversations to your heartbreakingly beautiful poetry, you have always had a magical way of communicating your inner most feelings. When we were still in our will-they-won’t-they phase of our relationship, you still always found a way to get me through my darkest moments. And, since coming to your senses and starting our official relationship, you have spent every moment making me feel loved and secure, even when I haven’t been feeling particularly lovable.
I hope in this marriage, to continue to be a partner to you, to share in your joys and support you through your woes. I hope to challenge you when needed, and grow through how you challenge me. I hope to be your consistent advocate, your emotional touchstone and your number one fan.
I love you, Montagoo, and the relationship we’ve built together. I love how we get silly together, plan together, play together, squish together, work together, laugh together, rest together, plan together, cook together, potato together and sing together…
So to finish my vows to you, I’d like to sing something from one of our favourite films we’ve enjoyed together…
[True Kinda Love by Estelle, from the Steven Universe Movie, adapted by Qita]
Oh, when a difficult day goes by
Keeping it together is hard, but that’s why
We always to try
We always to try
And when there’s a thundering storm outside
Underneath the covers, we cuddle and hide
Look in my eyes
Look in my eyes
It’s the true, it’s the true
It’s the true kinda love
It’s the true, it’s the true
It’s the true kinda love
Fuck, being mired in fear and shame
Everybody’s looking for someone to blame
Like it’s a game
Like it’s a game
And now we are better than “win-or-lose”
There’s a new direction that we had to choose
It’s called the truth
It’s called the truth
Hey, you, show me a solvable problem
We can get through this
I’ll do the hardest parts with you
It’s the true, it’s the true
It’s the true kinda love
It’s the true, it’s the true
It’s the true kinda love
It’s the true, it’s the true
It’s the true kinda love
It’s the true, it’s the true
It’s the true kinda love
