The Moon
On 2020 October 1st by montyTonight is a full moon, the Harvest Moon, tolling in the last few months of the year. It is also national poetry day, so here is a poem to celebrate…
I am convinced
the full moon
does not exist
Huge and round
on the horizon
glowing ethereally
Its seas defined
its shape apparent
its pull irresistible
It hangs regally
a harbinger
a cosmic mystery
It may be rock
it may be cheese
it may be illusory
Will it hatch
a golden dragon
to envelope the world?
Will it sink
deep into the ocean
to reveal Atlantis?
Will it uncurl
an ouroboros
in spherical guise?
The watcher
in the endless sky
subtly pulling waves
The lunar muse
waxing and waning
in the firmament
The pearl of the night
swimming lazily
in the sea of stars
I could swear
the moon was real
no shared delusion
But on my phone
it looks just like
a streetlamp
