{"id":426,"date":"2020-05-15T22:55:07","date_gmt":"2020-05-15T22:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/montyake.pirat.uk\/?p=426"},"modified":"2020-05-15T22:55:10","modified_gmt":"2020-05-15T22:55:10","slug":"natures-knell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/montyake.pirat.uk\/?p=426","title":{"rendered":"Nature&#8217;s Knell"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The world was gold chaotic beauty, born beneath our star,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Filled with life; a fruitful, free utopia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the endless bliss of Eden shone and rode<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And met itself, an endless reach around the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This natural perfection bore us all by its selection,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this world so great and generous has not been treated so by us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider summers long before, of sorts that simply are no more,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And think what world we have in store,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now thought is strong, but knowledge poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rolling fields, patrolling gelds and newborn foals,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Controlling mothers stop their strolling goals,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keeping close to hedge and post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make the most of summer\u2019s roast,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of nature\u2019s bounty: bold and verdant greens,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As reams of berries cascade in beams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And fruit falls fresh and full from trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hanging garden pantries of the sun,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stored on stems and stuck to thickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thick and overflowing, ripe and round,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Above, beneath, entwined within the ground,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A temporary feast, to summer bound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The country, great and limited,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its festival of flavour and freedom<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doomed to fester betwixt towns<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And cities, moors and downs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Replaced by pace and pavement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These places meant for sight and scent,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Relent and bow, shrink to crawl<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From cold urban sprawl<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That spreads its dead concrete feet,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laden with cabling and smog,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And clogging smoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trees, broke,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The forest folk<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are acid-soaked<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And choked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ever-shrinking beauty of this country,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Counting out the last of its days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final rays of sunlight from a rare blue sky<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That looks from high at fallen trees<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And taller breeze-block towers,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overpowering the natural order,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pushing its borders and burrowing hollow<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The earth and hearth and homeland,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grey sand and metal racks, and endless tracks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Connecting these abhorrent beastly capitals,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These bastions of humanity\u2019s self-satisfied societies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Identical and dire dins of darkened light and dilute sins,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Humongous gouges in the land of brick and steel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And sick, unfeeling progress for the modern man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The real beauty of the land is only fleeting,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flying by the windowed seating of the trains<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And planes and metal frames that people occupy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To fly between their sprawling scapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appaling japes and nature-raping bliss<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is metropolis. This man-made kiss goodnight,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As chimneys smother out day-light<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And highway-brightness kills the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entrapped inside these grey societies,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Man has frozen grass and trees;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stripped and strangled growths<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lost from healthy soil-host,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suck deathly fumes instead of balmy breeze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These final resting stops of gods\u2019 landmarks,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aptly named in stalling, stagnant \u2018parks\u2019;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parked in stone and sewer and foil,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forgotten memories of stream and soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We plant our trees and lazily commit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To fix this world, no longer blindly sit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And watch the jungles fade or arctics fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We kick a fuss and heed to nature\u2019s call,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what the use if we are few, not all?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are losing the one mother we all share,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because our wiser elders did not care,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now we human earth-disease<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No longer sees the wood, from lack of trees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The world was gold chaotic beauty, born beneath our star, Filled with life; a fruitful, free utopia.
