my mind, minutiae and filigree –<\/span><\/p>\n

we\u2019ll never share a witty repartee<\/span><\/p>\n

or get to stand in solidarity.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Your being there was not a guarantee,<\/span><\/p>\n

such is the way of our reality;<\/span><\/p>\n

dependency, and then an absentee,<\/span><\/p>\n

but here we are inside my memory.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You\u2019re coloured by the words of family<\/span><\/p>\n

in cherished stories and photography<\/span><\/p>\n

that paint a picture of our parity<\/span><\/p>\n

and parallel my personality.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The others\u2019 thoughts and their hyperbole,<\/span><\/p>\n

describing each idiosyncrasy,<\/span><\/p>\n

are not enough to bring you back to me,<\/span><\/p>\n

but here we are inside my memory.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You\u2019re not around to field an enquiry;<\/span><\/p>\n

I ask you <\/span>why<\/span><\/i>, you answer silently.<\/span><\/p>\n

The motive in that moment, mystery<\/span><\/p>\n

we\u2019ll never even get to disagree.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You\u2019ll never see potentiality,<\/span><\/p>\n

or the effects of your calamity,<\/span><\/p>\n

or, in my eyes, familiarity,<\/span><\/p>\n

but here we are inside my memory.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I\u2019ll never be the head of industry,<\/span><\/p>\n

a Nobel, Oscar, Tony nominee,<\/span><\/p>\n

and though content with mediocrity,<\/span><\/p>\n

you’ll never share my pride or misery.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You missed my childhood and maturity,<\/span><\/p>\n

the tooth and claw of my obscurity,<\/span><\/p>\n

my merriment and every malady,<\/span><\/p>\n

but here you are inside my memory.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My life and love and loss you\u2019ll never see,<\/span><\/p>\n

my many ups and downs, my apogee,<\/span><\/p>\n

my hell, my high, lament, and levity,<\/span><\/p>\n

my own attempt when I was twenty-three.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Had I a spell or opportunity,<\/span><\/p>\n

the past would passage by identically.<\/span><\/p>\n

For though you’ll never know what came of me,<\/span><\/p>\n
