<\/span>The second\u00a0poem in my Seasons quartet<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

When little is our last of hope to feel the warmth again,<\/p>\n

When unexpectedly we wish, through tiring Winter-rain,<\/p>\n

To feel the torrents pouring down from lazy snoring clouds,<\/p>\n

But warm and wet and wondrously damp and drenching shrouds<\/p>\n

That thaw the ice and nicely kiss the earth beneath the frost,<\/p>\n

And pour so thick, so quick we find ourselves forever lost,<\/p>\n

In labyrinths of streams and glimpsing gleams of morning puddles,<\/p>\n

That cling to clothing thoroughly, caresses us and cuddles.<\/p>\n

The rain that penetrates the soil and foils the Winter\u2019s plot,<\/p>\n

And brings to us returning life and love we once forgot.<\/p>\n

The dandy strands of daffodils are tickled in the breeze,<\/p>\n

And blushing-girl-hued blossoms whirl and prickle on the trees.<\/p>\n

Even weeds are welcome, with their gossamer and power<\/p>\n

To grow out high, defy the cold, and wildly, boldly flower.<\/p>\n

A hem of border-lining stems is sewn by nature\u2019s hand,<\/p>\n

Dressing-up the child Princess that is the living land,<\/p>\n

Returning to another year with cheer and brightened cheeks,<\/p>\n

Sprightly dancing over fields for hours, and days, and weeks.<\/p>\n

The older seasons can\u2019t compare to fair and lively Spring,<\/p>\n

Who lifts the air with care to share a feather from the wing<\/p>\n

Of birds returning home from learning songs they\u2019ve longed to sing.<\/p>\n

The warming Spring who curtsies in the willows when we pass<\/p>\n

The ready-steady-standing lambs that guzzle growing grass,<\/p>\n

And smiles a while and giggles with the trusting guarantee<\/p>\n

That we will see longevity of life upon the tree,<\/p>\n

Its budding fruits, and mudding roots, and squirrels popping out,<\/p>\n

Its little leaves against the breeze that sway and swish and shout,<\/p>\n
